The Nigeria Federal High Court (FHC) has set up a special task force of judges to expeditiously hear and decide all election cases before it.
The FHC made this known in a statement by its Deputy Director of Information, Dr. Catherine Oby-Christopher, in Abuja on Wednesday. According to Obi Christopher, a circular letter issued by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Court. Justice John Terahimba Tsuho says it is necessary to appoint a team of judges following the large number of pre-election cases that have flooded the court.
“Due to the urgency of the electoral case, as a time-limited electoral case, the judges who are members of the task force will suspend all regular cases in their respective courts. “Due to the large volume of pre-election cases that have been filed so far. with the imminent danger of expiring, it has become necessary to set up a Task Force for expeditious resolution of the issues, particularly in those Judicial Divisions which have an abundance of them,” the circular said.
Judge Tsoho further said judges would have four weeks to decide pre-election cases.
