Preventing cancer: Do’s and Don’ts

Introduction

There has been a rapid increase in the diagnosis of cancer. So many people lost their lives to various cancerous diseases. Research has it that about seventy to eighty per cent of what we eat and inhale can cause cancer. Cancer ricancer ses when a cell does not function properly and perform its function. The cell remains immature, they turn to steal nutrition from the body. There are various forms of cancer depending on where it occurs in the body. Ovarian cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, etc. Since 70% risk cause of cancer is food-based, it is important for us to watch what we eat.

You stand a chance of having when you consume the following in large quantities.
High intake of fatty food especially animal fats.
Consumption of excessive sugar. Excessive sugar in the body does not just cause diabetes but weakens the immune system and speeds up the growth of cancer.
High consumption of salt, processed food, meat and margarine.

Processed food is preserved with various chemicals that can be harmful to the body.

FOODS THAT ARE CANCER DEFENSIVE
Certain foods have phytonutrients in them. Phytonutrients help in building a defence against cancer. Examples of phytonutrients are Isoflavones, Lycopene, Sulforaphane, Polyphenol, Organo-sulphur, Flavonoids and Ellagic acid.

Isoflavones contain nutrients that act as a defence against cancer. It can be found in soybeans. Soybeans stop and prevent the formation of new blood vessels. When cancer sets in, it creates new blood vessels so that they can grow very well. It prevents the multiplication of cancerous cells. Soybeans can be processed and consumed in various ways. It can be processed and consumed as milk and flour powder. Most people roast it and eat it as groundnut. Soybeans powder can be used when taking tea, sipping garri and pap. Using all soybean products in a diet is very useful in the prevention of cancer.

Flavonoids are nutrients that form a defence against cancer. It can be found in onions (white onions, purple onions and spring onions) and apples. Onions can be consumed raw by chewing. It can also be used in preparing food. Apple can be eaten raw or used to produce juice.

Organo-Sulphur: This can be found in broccoli and cabbage. They prevent cancer and detoxify the body’s cells.
Lycopene is found in tomatoes, especially the raw and fresh ones. It contains antioxidants.

HELPFUL HEALTH TIPS
The following are healthy tips that can prevent cancer.
Increase consumption of fibre – Fibre-rich food should be taken in large quantities. Plant-based fibre is preferable and nutritious.

Fruits should be taken at least once a day. Apples, watermelon, melon, oranges, tomatoes, strawberries, lettuce, cabbage, banana, raspberries, pineapple, mangoes, etc.
Avoid the consumption of canned and packaged food because most of the preservatives used contains harmful and cancer-causing agents. Canned food like geisha, sardine, etc.
Reduce and if possible stop taking bottles of food or drinks and alcohol.

Avoid the consumption of frozen food especially frozen chicken and meat (beef).
Early in the morning, take a cup of hot water that is diluted with lemon extract.
Take at least three litres of water (clean) every day. The state or amount of water in the body determines the healthy state of the body. Water enhances cell functions. The importance of water is numerous. Therefore, nothing can replace it.
Take natural or herbal tea with fresh mint leaves or lemongrass juice. They are preferable to coffee.

Avoid eating sweetened food.
Cancer can be prevented by taking fruits that are rich in antioxidants. An antioxidant is a substance that can be found in food. They prevent the reactions of harmful chemicals that are in foods. Carrots specifically contain these antioxidants that can prevent the formation of cancerous cells. You can chew carrot or extract the juice and drink it. Glycogen is another antioxidant that is found in tomatoes. Tomatoes prevent prostate cancer as it promotes the accurate functioning of cells in the prostate gland.

Take multivitamins like Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Folic acid, Calcium especially ones gotten from fruits.
Take supplements as well.
Take more of vegetables.
Conclusion: Let us do our possible best to eat to live and not eat to die. Inculcate good eating habit and learn to exercise regularly.
