Saying No Is Without A Doubt The Best Productive Life Hack

A blatant “No” has always been accompanied with negativity and rudeness In all forms of expressions so far the human cognitive is concerned. People who always say no as a response are always said to be malignant and uncaring.

To be very honest it is quite arduous to deny a straight forward request especially one from a friend or family member, it has become a normal thing experienced by an innumerable amount of people across the globe simply because a lot of people have been engineered to be “bootlickers“, they respond yes to everything even before deciphering what they just agreed to.

Why is this so? people feel that as friends, they are obligated to respond positively to every desire of their acquaintance, they barricade themselves mentally with such, forgetting that humans are free moral agents who are expected to make decision-based on their motives concerning the situation and not because of an obligation.

it has been proven that humans tend to say yes all the time because they don’t want to be tagged as rude or arrogant or unhelpful, as funny as it may sound this has become a disease that has been killing every individual’s time, you might have not been familiar with the significance of saying no, but the purpose of this article is to familiarize you as well as many others with the importance of saying no.

You find out that close friends, and family members from time to time, enlist your help and support in certain things. Because of the present status and the position they hold in your life you find your self saying words like “of course I’ll do it”, “definitely”, “sure thing”, only to discover days later you are bombarded with a whole lot of workload.

It becomes frustrating and your time that would have served its purpose by being of use to you, would become something that would add zero value to your life, you become a slave to your obligations rather than a free man.

Why do we say yes?

We say yes for future collaborations the feeling of “I scratch your back, you scratch mine” has transformed free-willed people into verbal hostages, further turning them into “yes men and women”, it’S no doubt that collaboration helps a lot it’s an important element in life.

Many still feel the need to say yes all because of the fear of losing someone of great importance in their life, some just say it as a response to questions and request all in the name of painting themselves in a pleasing color, without even knowing the difference between yes and no.

What is the Difference Between Saying Yes And No

“Mere words” that’s what a layman would tell you, the English dictionary would further emphasize that explanation by telling you that they are direct counterparts when it comes to significance.

Those words have been put into direct comparison times without numbers to the point that it makes their weights equal when implored in a conversation.

In reality, they aren’t just opposite in meaning but of entirely different magnitude In commitment. When you say “No” you are saying it to an option, but when you say yes, you are as of that time saying no to every other alternative.

Tim Howards put it as;

Every time we say yes to a request, we are always saying no to anything else we might accomplish with that time.

Saying no if put into meaning is the equivalent of saving time it’s like a time credit as James clear would say. Saying yes robs you of your time which makes it a time debit, every individual retains the ability to spend their future time however they want, but their future breakthrough can be impeded by simply agreeing to lend a helping hand,

It sounds selfish no doubt but it’ll be proper to tell you to pay caution to time it waits for no man. if you prioritize your time for your purpose you won’t be denied of progress, but if you decide to obligate yourself to the request of another individual you only add to his/her success catalogue.

While you walk away with a blank slip filled with nothing and maybe a wristwatch to check the amount of time you’ve wasted. That is the kind of payback you’ll receive for your commitment. “No” is a decision, “yes” is a responsibility.

In case you haven’t heard, saying no is a sign of respect, when you say yes to a person you have no intention of helping, there is a slight chance that resentment might crawl in. This would impact negatively on the relationship you share with that person.

Saying no especially when you mean it brings about self-respect for you and the other person in contact, it shows you’re honest and real, which are what defines a true relationship/friendship, it outlines your kind of behavior to others and it furthermore sets a boundary for others not to go beyond.

Saying no has been seen as something only powerful people can do, turning down an opportunity might be lethal because there is no accurate foresight of it rebounding at least that’s what the mind of a mediocre would bring forth, but the powerful people see it otherwise as it is easy for them to turn down opportunities and fall back to their haven provided by their money, and authority, but “no” isn’t really a privilege preserved for successful people only, it’s more of tactics for becoming established.

Saying no is a substantial skill to acquire at this stage in life, it helps preserve a valuable resource known as time, and if you don’t guard your time, it will be stolen, it’s very essential to dissent whatever isn’t piloting you towards your goals.

in a much more approachable manner, it would be needful to do away with distractions. Saying no doesn’t necessarily imply that you’ll never propagate anything good or be the author of anything spontaneous, it rather means that you are indirectly saying yes with a focal point.

James clear once wrote;

More effort is wasted doing things that don’t matter than is wasted doing things inefficiently. And if that is the case, elimination is a more useful skill than optimization.
