SEX- THE SIN OF FORNICATION

“And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.” “Thou shalt not commit adultery.” Exodus 20:1,2;14.

The cause for man’s degradation was disobedience to God’s precept, where God says “don’t,” and you “do,” you have utterly disobeyed your maker and hence join the adversary in rebelling against God’s holy law.

If man (Adam and Eve) had obeyed the voice of the Holy One, all humanity would have been united and in continual communion with Him. Disobedience and, henceforth, sin is the cause for moral weakness, mental decay and ungodliness. If our first parents had obeyed God’s law, the earth would look as though it were recreated daily.

Therefore in the course of disobeying God’s commandments, there are consequences for the transgressor. “For the wages of sin is death…” Rom 6:23, “The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.” 1Cor. 15:56. “Whoever rebels against your command and does not heed Your words, in that you command him, shall be put to death. Only be strong and of good courage.” Joshua 1:18

God said, “Thou shalt not commit adultery,” therefore, if you do, you are a transgressor of the law of the Most High. The result of the sin, if not repented, is death.

But what really about fornication and adultery? “Sex between a married person and somebody who is not their husband or wife.” Oxford dictionary on Adultery. “To have sex with somebody that you are not married to.” Oxford dictionary on Fornication. What could be wrong with doing this (esp. since God created the sex organs)?

Let’s go back to the bible; “And the Lord God said, ‘it is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.’” Gen. 2:18. God created Adam first, not that He forgot to create the woman [Eve], but for some purpose, He made Adam and afterwards provided him with a helper by taking one of his [Adam] ribs. He teaches us the closeness and relationship that should exist between a married couple.

The first account of adultery in the bible is recorded in Genesis 6. The major causes for the destruction of the Antediluvian world were adultery, fornication and homosexuality; men became lovers of themselves more than God. There was great sexual immorality that surrounded most of the people, saving the family of Noah and the other faithful few, who perhaps died before the flood.

Sodom and Gomorrah were charged with sexual atrocities, which they committed. They lived as though no law was binding and their course was not righteous before God. If a man is full of love, the following will happen;

  1. Man would hearken to the precept of God. (John 14:15)
  2. Man would not hurt his neighbour. (John 15:10-12; Romans 12:9,10)

The reason for mating/sexual intercourse

God has created, and now man is to procreate. God wouldn’t continue to create. Therefore He put/gave man the science of creating (procreation), which is only achieved by sexual intercourse. So why is sexual intercourse so rampant now, especially among youths?

“I say then, walk in the spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16. What are the lusts of the flesh? “Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry…and the like; of which I tell you beforehand just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

Gal. 5:19-22. “For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another so that you do not do the things you wish.” Verse 17. “Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” 2Tim2:22.

The punishment of Adultery and fornication:

“Then the Pharisees brought to Him [Jesus] a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, they said to Him [Jesus], ‘Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that should be stoned.’” John 8:3-5. What a punishment for sin! A rampant sin! If this strict law were to be abide by today, how many people would have been stoned to death? Here, the Pharisees brought what Moses recorded in the book of Leviticus: “the man who commits adultery with another man’s wife, he who commits the adultery with his neighbour’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.” Lev 20:10

Paul wrote to the Hebrews: “Marriage is honourable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.” Hebrews 13:4

Christ addressing the modern traits of adultery and fornication, said, “You have heard that it was said of old, you shall not commit adultery. But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Matt 5:27,28.

The prerequisite of action is conceiving in the heart. When the plans are conceived, and the opportunities are being longed for, what prevents a man from conceiving lust in his heart for a lady, and every opportunity is there to strike her? Nothing stops him! Therefore, to conceive lust in the heart is the same as to put it into action; the only difference is the opportunity. “Then, when the desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin: and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” James 1:15

This [fornication] is an agency of Satan, luring everyone who yields to it to himself [Satan].

Paul is writing to you for those who had the opportunities and those who are yet conceiving it in his heart: “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of GOD? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, homosexuals, nor sodomites… will inherit the Kingdom of God.” 1 Cor. 6:9.
