65% of residents in the south-west are Muslims-Shittu Adebayo

The Director General of flag bearer of the APC, Asiwaju Tinubu’s Presidential Campaign Organisation, Shittu Adebayo, has claimed that the Muslims residing in the south-western part of Nigeria are about 65%.

He made this claim in an interview on African Independent Television, during a program called ‘Focus Nigeria show’, on Tuesday.

Adebayo Shittu was seen justifying the decision of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, to pick a fellow Muslim, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate for the general election.

Bola Tinubu, who is a from the southern Muslim, had tackled the claims of the Christian Association of Nigerian, some of the APC party members and all the political stakeholders when he announced Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the general election.

Modifying his principal’s choice, Shittu claimed that the southwestern part of Nigerian were mainly Muslims.

“In the South-Western part of Nigeria, the Muslims consist of about an average of 65%,” of the population, the lawyer claimed.

When he was addressed if his statement was based on fact or projection, he said, “I always tell the truth. You can examine. Do your research work.”

He also stated, “It is mostly on the basis of faith that people are making noise about the so-called Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“In Ekiti state, it was Christian-Christian governorship ticket. In Ondo state, it is Christian-Christian ticket. In Edo state, where the Northern part of the state is largely Muslim, it is Christian-Christian ticket. Nobody is making any claim about this.”

Also talking on the All Progressive Congress defeat in the Osun State governorship electionl, Shittu stated that the defeat of Gboyega Oyetola, incumbent governor, was disappointing.

The former Minister of Communications stated that, “The Osun state election defeat was a very big disappointment. But for some of us, we were not surprised about the result and I regret to say this but it is the truth.”

INEC has on Sunday declared Senator Ademola Adeleke of the PDP the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Osun state.
