ASUU: Resolve all issues immediately, Buhari to Adamu

The Academic Staff Union of Universities in Nigeria has informed the entire populace that it has no plan to suspend its ongoing nationwide strike but to end it at once.

It has however been said that such can only happen when all their needs have been met by the federal government.

ASUU’s current President, Professor. Osodeke Emmanuel, at a press conference held in Abuja, had stated that;

“ASUU definitely want to end the ongoing strike. We are not suspending the strike this time around. We can only end the strike when all the needs have been met.”

While appreciating all efforts of some the stakeholders on the ongoing strike, ASSU’s president Osodeke Emmanuel, explained that “The fight is not over until it is over!”

 Reports has it that the Federal Government of Nigeria plans to increase the wages of ASUU members by 100 per cent, Osodeke Emmanuel said, “We are not informed about any new agreement made. If the Federal Government wants to negotiate with ASUU, they know the right channel to contact us.”

In an interview earlier, Osodeke Emmanuel mentioned that the union (ASUU) are looking forward to receive a call or invitation from the government since it has not received any since they had the last meeting with Prof. Nimi Briggs renegotiation committee on 16th of June, 2022.

President Buhari’s order;

The President of the federal republic of Nigeria, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has on Tuesday, directed the Minister of Education in Nigeria, Adamu Adamu, to look into the five-month ASUU strike and three different university labour unions within the space of two weeks.

The President, Buhari had issued the petition after he was informed by the government’s Ministries, Agencies and Departments who are still in negotiation between the Federal Government and the labour unions. After the briefing on Tuesday, from the significant MDAs, the President, Muhammadu Buhari instructed the minister of education to resolve every impasse with ASUU within the next two weeks and report immediately back to him.
