Russia-Ukraine war: List of events, Losses, day 574

Russia-Ukraine War, the war between Russia and Ukraine, began in February 2014 with the covert invasion of the Ukrainian autonomous republic of Crimea by disguised Russian troops. The conflict expanded in April 2014 when Russians and local proxy forces seized territory in Ukraine’s Donbas region; over the next seven years, more than 14,000 people would be killed in fighting in eastern Ukraine.

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Although Russian forces made significant gains in the first days of combat, Ukrainian defenders rebuffed attempts to seize Kyiv and other major cities and soon launched counterattacks at Russian positions.

Podolyak emphasized, “In the meantime, we must not forget: it was Russia that initiated the invasion of Ukraine, and it is Russia that bears responsibility for bringing war to our country.”
  • In a separate development, Russia conducted a series of drone attacks on the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, resulting in the loss of at least one life and triggering a significant fire at an industrial warehouse, where two individuals sustained injuries.

  • U.S. President Joe Biden, addressing the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), emphasized the importance of international solidarity in defending Ukraine and urged leaders to confront Russia’s “blatant aggression” to deter potential future aggressors.
