The presidential flag bearer, and national leader of the APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has chosen the immediate governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate towards the forthcoming election in 2023.
The idea has generated, and continues to generate because both candidates chosen are of the Islamic religion.
Before the decision was taken, discussions had filled the air on the propriety of fielding presidential and vice presidential candidates of the same religion for a major political party like APC.
The Equality and the peculiar Nigerians indicate that such a decision would be an electoral chaos for the party that builds on it.
The Presidential Candidate of All Progressives Congress and flag bearer, Bola Tinubu, has rescheduled the unveiling of his running mate, the former Governor of Borno state, Kashim Shettima, for Wednesday.
The decision is coming nine days after the Bola Tinubu picked Kashim Shettima as his running mate
Shettima will be unveiled on Wednesday afternoon at about 1.00pm at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.
This was unveiled in a statement briefed by the APC National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu on tuesday.
The statement states thus “The All Progressives Congress (APC) will officially unveil its Bola Tinubu’s running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu had informed reporters that Kashim Shettima was the ‘Appointed one’ after a closed-door meeting with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) in Daura, Katsina State, on the 10th of July.
Less than 24 hours after unveiling his Vice president Kashim Shettima, the All Progressive Congress received hundreds of criticisms from concerned Nigerians, religious leaders, opposition parties and the Christians Association of Nigeria, nationwide.
However, the residence of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had denied the report, expressing their negative concerns to abandon their vice presidential candidate.
