Is the Gen Z the most stressed generation? Times have changed, and Gen Z remains the major focus of the society. Gen Z generation is the most globally connected generation that gets to interact with like minds across various cultures and races.
But does this help this generation, or does it keep them isolated and locked away from reality?
The Gen Z generation has become nothing without the internet. The technological evolution greatly contributed to the now “Gen Z” generation and has created an unconscious dependence on the internet in the minds of this generation. This dependence has led to stress.
A high-stress rate in the Gen Z generation has been reported to be higher than that of the older generation. The Focus on social media has amplified the likely stressors of this age. Leaving the Gen Z generation with various mental issues like anxiety, depression, sadness, isolation and confusion.
Where most likely stressors are work and money, social media plays a big part in this. Alarmingly, many of the Gen Z generation solely depend on the internet as a means of interaction, locking themselves out from the real world. This isolation has created a significant gap in the challenges faced by this generation.
Stress has become a regular pattern of life. And from all indicators, it has had a huge effect on the psychology of this generation. Gen Z has had a sharp decline in the mental focus on activities and has an increasing rate of stress daily.
How Can Stress Be Managed In This Gen Z Generation?
Managing stress in the Gen Z generation is only possible when the primary stressor is handled. In this case, the pointers to those stressors are social media.
Jonathan Haidt, a Social psychologist, in his book titled “The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness,” addressed one of the predominant causes of mental illness and stress of this generation as the addiction to the internet (social media).
To reduce and manage the stress level of this generation to an extent, social media’s influence will not be overlooked as it is a vital part of this generation. Although it can be addictive with personal convictions, this generation can surpass it. Through an individual evaluation and grounding, stress can be managed greatly.
