Step one – Press the Print Screen (PrtScn) Key

Pressing the Print Screen key is one of the simplest ways to take a screenshot on your system. With this process you get to capture the image and have it at your clipboard.

You can then paste it into an application like Paint or Word to save it. It’s a no-fuss, quick solution for those who need a full-screen capture.

Step 2 – Use Windows + PrtScn

Using Windows + PrtScn helps you capture the whole screen and save it automatically, use the Windows key and the Print Screen key together.

When this process is completed your screen will dim a bit, indicating that the screen shot has been taken. The image will be saved in your Pictures folder under “Screenshots.” This is a great option when you want to skip the manual saving process.

Step 3 – Windows + Shift + S

For more control, press Windows + Shift + S. This opens Snip & Sketch, allowing you to select a specific part of the screen.

A small toolbar will be displayed at the top of your screen with different snipping options: Rectangular Snip, Freeform Snip, Window Snip, and Fullscreen Snip. Pick the one you need and draw over the area you want to capture.

Step 4 – Use the Snipping Tool

You can also use the built-in Snipping Tool for more options and editing features.

Find the Snipping Tool by searching for it in your Start menu. Once open, click “New” to start a new snip. You can set a delay if you need time to prepare your screen for capture.
