Now let’s dive into these 10things to pack for NYSC camp that most corps members forget and how you can get them ready before leaving to avoid forgetting them

  1. Power Bank

You need a power bank of high capacity because the electricity in the camp can be unreliable. A strong power bank with about 20,000mAh is very essential as you can use it to charge your phone many times, especially during long lectures and blackouts.

  1. Money Belt Or Waist Pouch

During parades and other outdoor activities, you will need a secure pouch to carry your phone, money, ID card, and documents at all times.  The good thing is that this pouch is easy to wear and carry.

  1. Reusable Water Bottle

At the orientation camp, there will be lots of outdoor activities, and you will be moving around a lot under the sun for parades, drills and other activities. Which makes a reusable water bottle very essential because you can refill it when the water finishes, and it saves you money,  and keeps you hydrated

  1. First Aid Kits

You should consider having a mini first aid kit that includes painkillers, plasters, cotton wool, antiseptic, balm, and malaria tablets.  You need to have your personal kits just in case the camp clinic does not have these essentials

  1. Small Rechargeable Fan

Apart from the heat and stuffy rooms that are common in NYSC orientation camps.  Sweating during activities can be very uncomfortable. This is why a small rechargeable is a must for corps members, especially those who sweat a lot

  1. Peg And Small Cloth Line

Orientation camps are often crowded, and drying space for clothes may be limited. It is important to get personal pegs and rope for hanging clothes after laundry to prevent the clothes from falling off and getting dirty.

  1. Padlock And Key

Padlock and key are non-negotiable for every corps member except for those who want to hear stories that touch the nose.  At orientation camps, you get to share hostel space with other corps members who you do not know and only meet at the camp.

In order to keep your belongings and properties safe, it is very important to get a padlock and key

  1. Slippers And Shower Essentials

You need slippers and shower essentials because at the camp, you will be sharing a bathroom with other corps members. So you need to get a personal rubber slippers, a bucket, a sponge case, a toilet roll, and detergent or bleach for safety purposes

  1. Notebook And Pen

At the NYSC camp, you will take lectures and engage in skill acquisition sessions. To help you remember, get a notebook and a pen to jot down important notes.  Other information, like clearance dates, can also be jotted down in the notebook.

  1. Snacks And Food Flasks

Snacks and food flask is the part that I am most interested in because I like eating crunchy things a lot. At the camp, you will get camp food, but for someone like me who likes to eat something extra light, snacks are very important .  And the food flash can be used to store food if you don’t want to eat immediately, to keep your food warm

5 Tips To Make Your Camp Life Easier

Make Photocopies Of Important Documents: Extra photocopies of important documents will save you a lot of stress. You make 10 copies of important documents like the call-up letter, statement of result, green card, passport photo, etc.

A Good Pillow: In most cases, the pillow at orientation camps can be too flat; you might need to get a good pillow to enhance your sleep.

Get Extra White Tees And Shorts: Yes, you will be given at the camp, but to be on the safer side, especially when it rains or when a pair is dirty, you can use the other.

Get Laundry Soap and Hangers: This will help if the space for drying clothes becomes occupied.

Torchlight or Headlamp: For midnight movement or when there’s no power.

Conclusion

The NYSC orientation camp is meant to be fun for corps members, but if you do not get all you need for your stay at the camp, it can be very uncomfortable.  That’s why you need to pack smart by making a list of what needs to be bought and packed, checking each item on the list once you have bought and packed it.
