ASUU Strike: FG Says Students Will Return to School Shortly

ASUU Strike: FG Says Students Will Return to School Shortly, Due to its determination to resolve disputes with the university-based unions, the Federal Government has guaranteed that academic activities would start soon.

Currently on strike are the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Senator Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, stated that the strike’s resolution is imminent following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Denying the claim that the Federal Government intended to change the payment schedule for unions, the minister claimed that the government had called all pertinent agencies, including the National Information Development Agency (NITDA), to update it on the progress made in tackling the grievances that had prompted the unions’ ongoing strike.

ASUU Strike: FG Says Students Will Return to School Shortly, Speaking at the time, Ngige stated that the government was eager to see the students return to their studies.

The University Transparency and Accountability System (UTAS), which was suggested by ASUU as an excellent alternative, and the University Peculiar Personnel and Payroll System (U3PS), which was suggested by SSANU and NASU, are anticipated to be discussed during the meeting on Thursday, according to him.

The minister stated that he was awaiting the findings of the Tripartite Plus Committee, which included the National University Commission (NUC), the Chief of Staff, the Salaries and Wages Income Commission, the Ministry of Education, and the striking unions.
