About The Ebonyi State University Of ICT, Science And Technology Oferekpe

The conception and establishment process of the Ebonyi State University of ICT, Science, and Technology, Oferekpe Agbaja, Ebonyi State, commenced in 2021.

It all started when the state House of Assembly, under the leadership of the Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru passed the bill establishing Law No. 018 of 2021, which was assented to by the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Engr. David Nweze Umahi.

Then, in 2023, as part of the vision for the successful takeoff of academic activities at the university, the then Speaker of the House, who later became the Executive Governor of the state, in the person of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Bld. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru inaugurated a six-member university project implementation committee (PIC).

Under the chairmanship of Professor Amari Omaka, SAN, the state commissioner for tertiary education. Other members of the committee were Engr Prof Paul Awo Nwobasi, the commissioner for primary/ secondary education, Prof Jesse Uneke, the vice chancellor, David Umahi, Federal University of Health Sciences,

Prof Benedict Mbam – the provost, Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo, Hon Lilian Nwachukwu – the senior special assistant to the governor on education, and comrade joshua Nwafor – the special assistant to the governor on students mobilisation.

On August 19, 2024, the government appointed Engr Professor Ernest Ituma Egba as the pioneer vice chancellor in acting capacity. Accordingly, Dr. Chukwu Eze Obia, dr louis Chinedu Nkwagu, and Mr. Oliver Nwibo Omankwu were appointed as the registrar. Bursar and librarian, respectively, on September 6, 2024, in acting capacities.

On January 23, 2025, the Ebonyi State University of ICT, Science, and Technology, Oferekpe, Agbaja, Ebonyi State, was formally recognised as the 66th state university and the 278th university in the Nigerian university system by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

OBJECTIVES

The goals and objectives of the University of Ict Ofeepke align with the objectives of the national policy on education, particularly higher education in Nigeria, as outlined in Decree No. 16 of 1985. The law establishing the University of ICT Oferepke (Law No. 7 of 1999) stated the objectives of the University of ICT Oferepke as follows.

To encourage the advancement of learning in Ebonyi State, state of Nigeria, in particular, and Nigeria in general, and to hold out to all persons, without distinction as to race, creed or sex, the opportunity of acquiring higher education.
To provide facilities ( as its resources permit) and to make it available for the pursuit of learning, especially such facilities that would give training that has concrete relevance to the needs of our society.
To foster the spirit of creativity, inventiveness, resourcefulness, and patriotism.
