Funded 2026 Nordic Africa Institute Scholarship Programme – Apply Now

Applications are now open for the 2026 Nordic Africa Institute’s Nordic Scholarship Programme. Through the Nordic Scholarship Programme, NAI aims to contribute to building capacity in the production of knowledge about Africa, and to promote and establish relations with and between Nordic research communities.

Eligibility Criteria For The Funded 2026 Nordic Africa Institute Scholarship Programme

  • You must be a master’s student, PhD candidate or postdoctoral researcher in the social sciences or humanities.
  • You may apply regardless of citizenship, but you must be affiliated with a university or research centre in Sweden, Finland, Denmark or Iceland.
  • You must be pursuing Africa-oriented studies/research.

Benefits Of The Funded 2026 Nordic Africa Institute Scholarship Programme        

  • The scholarship covers travel expenses, accommodation and a subsistence allowance.
  • You get access to a workspace in a shared office at the Institute for your one-month stay.
  • The scholarship covers travelling expenses for the least expensive fare from residential address (in Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Iceland) to Uppsala and return.
  • The scholarship holders are provided with a desk and computer in a shared office at the Institute and free accommodation centrally located in Uppsala. The scholarship also includes a subsistence allowance of SEK 400 per day and free photocopying up to a maximum of 1,000 copies.

Please note: The scholarship does not include health care insurance or other insurance.
