Funke Akindele Breaks Silence – Nollywood Actress Funke Akindele Breaks Silence After Losing Governorship Election
- Nollywood actress and politician Funke Akindele have spoken on losing Saturday’s governorship election in Lagos State to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This follows the filmmaker’s removal of all political and PDP-related posts from her official Instagram page.
Recall that some states in Nigeria held their governorship and state house of assembly elections on March 18, 2023. Gov. Babajide Sanwo-olu was re-elected with a majority of 762,134 votes.
Breaking the silence, Funke Akindele took to her official social media page to share her expression.
“Therefore, I want to thank the people of Lagos state for supporting my decision to run for office and believing in me,” she wrote. I heard about all the places where people supported me and confronted those who sought to discredit me, and I saw every message of encouragement both online and offline.
“I recall each gracious welcome we received during our campaign tour and the trust you all placed in me. Despite the fact that the results of the elections did not turn out as we had hoped, we ran an honourable campaign. In actuality, we put up a good fight,” she claimed.
Akindele urged those who wished the best for the country and the state of Lagos to persevere, acknowledging that some of them were starting to show signs of systemic apathy. But said, “however, if we do not speak, we will never be heard. I’m glad that we could at least speak up.
“I want to thank Lagos once more for supporting your daughter. I’ll keep putting the welfare of people and maintaining the credibility of my role as a people advocate as I decide how to proceed in life. Oni baje eko!
