A larger number of people access YouTube through phones, and many users change video quality based on preference, which might be for a better experience or to save data.

YouTube has four different video quality options, which are Auto (Recommended), Higher picture quality, Data saver, and Advance. It is important to note that advance option is only available during playback.

1. Open your YouTube application

2. Click on the profile icon at the right side of the phone screen

3. On the menu, click on “settings”

4. On the settings menu, Click on video quality preferences.

The video quality preference has four options:

  • Auto(Recommended): In auto options, the video quality switches to the highest resolution when the network is fast, and when the internet speed is slow, a lower resolution is selected.
  • Higher picture quality: This option consumes more data and displays YouTube videos in 720p resolution or more
  • Data saver: This option reduces the video and picture quality
  • Advance: the advance option is only available during playback.

5. You can now Choose a video quality you want to set.

Another Step to changing video quality on the YouTube app can be during playback, which is where advance comes in.

  1. Open the YouTube app and click on any video.
  2. At the right side of the screen, click on the three dots,
  3. choose “quality”, and tap “advance” from the pop-up
  4. Click on the specific video quality you want, and your will video will start playing on the selected quality.
