There were robust suggestions concerning the two terrorist groups, the Islamic State West Africa Province ‘ISWAP’ and Boko Haram, about preparing an attack some states in the North-West, North-Central and South-West regions of the country.
Some correspondents learnt that the security agencies had got a security report that the terrorist groups Islamic State West Africa Province and Boko Haram intended to attack Lagos, Kaduna, Kogi, Katsina and Zamfara states as well as Abuja ‘the Federal Capital Territory’.
Earlier this week, there was a leaked memorandum from Nigeria’s headquarters of Security and Civil Defence Corps, which forewarned state commands to the planned attacks.
Shola Odumosu, the NSCDC spokesman when contacted said the memorandum did not actually come from the security agencies.
Moreover, a state commandant, who analysed the memo, claimed that the security officials had been instructed to keep quiet over it in order not to cause panic.
The state commandant, who spoke on condition of inconspicuousness, stated that, ‘’Yes, it is true that the headquarters had issued a security awareness to us that we should be very vigilant and we should inform our men to be observant. And we should also protect the critical organizations and places of worship”.
“It is also very essential that we notify the entire public to be vigilant.”
Following the awareness, the security was on Tuesday beefed up in Abuja to forestall a possible attack by ISWAP and Boko Haram.
Earlier this week, the top Presidential Guards Brigade was ambushed by some gunmen along the Bwari-Kubwa road where a captain, lieutenant and six other soldiers allegedly lost their lives.
The operators were examined in Bwari, which is presenting a campus of the Nigerian Law School; Apo Mechanic, Lugbe, Living Faith area, Goshen, Keffi-Abuja Expressway while day and night watch has been strengthened to gather vigorous Intellect.”
