Have you ever budgeted to buy something with money you were expecting, only for the money not to arrive or be credited to you? That can be very frustrating, especially if you bought things on credit with the intention of paying with the money you are expecting.
The truth is, by the month’s end, corps members look forward to receiving their monthly NYSC allowance. Unfortunately, they sometimes experience payment issues that can cause delays, especially for new batches.
Here, I will share the common NYSC allowance payment issues corps members experience and how to resolve these issues.
NYSC Payment Issues Corps Members Face
As of March 2025, the federal government increased the NYSC allowance from 33,000 monthly to 77000 naira, in line with the increasing cost of living in the country.
Here are some NYSC allowance (allawee) payment issues that corps members face.
- Delayed or missing payment from the federal government
Most times, the payment gets processed late in Abuja, the headquarters. And in most cases, it could be network issues or service downtime from the bank
- Wrong account details
Some corps members fill in the wrong account details during registration. It can also bae as a result of a name mismatch, for example, the name on the NYSC portal is different from the name used in the bank or BVN. Using a dominant account or unsupported microfinance banks can be an issue, too.
- Biometric verification issues
As a corps member, monthly clearance is compulsory and a default if you want to get paid your allowance. Skipping the monthly clearance or not capturing fingerprints properly at the LGA can also cause payment issues.
- Serving in remote areas with poor network coverage can delay alerts or bank notifications. Also, delayed documentation of monthly clearance is a factor.

To resolve NYSC allowance payment issues, there are steps that corps members need to take. They include the following
- Check your dashboard
The first step is to log in to your NYSC portal, go to payment status and confirm. If there is a mistake, correct it; if possible, relink your BVN and also check your clearance status to ensure it shows cleared.
