Access Bank CEO – Dr Herbert Wigwe sets up a new university in Rivers.
Dr Herbert Wigwe is a notable Nigerian banker and businessperson who currently serves as the CEO of Access Bank Plc, which is publicly traded as Access Corporation. Recent information indicates that he has established a foundation to launch a private university in his hometown of Isiokpo, located in the Ikwere local government area of Rivers State.
Dr Herbert Wigwe, the CEO of Access Bank Plc, has announced the establishment of Wigwe University in his hometown, Isiokpo, in Rivers State. The university’s primary objective is to educate and enlighten young people who will be future leaders.
During the foundation laying ceremony, Dr Wigwe stated that Wigwe University would be a top-notch educational institution, with 60% of its academic staff being Nigerian lecturers and 40% being foreign lecturers.
According to him, there are plans to construct approximately 200 buildings on the 400-hectare land where the university is situated. Additionally, he mentioned that students at Wigwe University will have the opportunity to study abroad for a year to gain global exposure.
Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, who was previously the Group Managing Director and CEO of Access Bank Plc, stated that the impressive infrastructure progress made by Governor Nyesom Wike served as motivation for Wigwe to create the university in Isiokpo.
Governor Wike has also pledged his administration’s backing to the objectives of Wigwe University to ensure its success.
According to Wike, education is a crucial aspect of his administration as he believes education provides unparalleled human capital development.
Additionally, Wike highlighted that Rivers now has two private universities, including Wigwe University, and expressed his desire to encourage more private universities in Rivers with the government’s support.
