INEC neglects Labour Party on Ogun candidates’ list

Date:

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ogun State, has stated that it has no electoral records of Labour Party’s governorship and deputy governorship candidates contesting for the upcoming 2023 governorship election in the state.
Niyi Ijalaye, The Independent National Electoral Commission Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, disclosed this earlier this week.
Niyi Ijalaye stated that the party ‘Labour party’ did not submit any name of the candidate for the 26 House Assembly seats in Ogun state.
He said “from the archives available to us, the Labour Party did not submit any name of both the governorship and deputy governorship candidates to us ‘INEC’.
“We also discovered that they did not submit the candidates name of the candidates of the House of Assembly.”
The Electoral commission had on last Saturday released the names of 13 governorship and deputy governorship candidates of the different political parties participating the 2023 governorship election.
The Electoral commission also released the names of House of Assembly candidates of different political parties.
Reacting to the latest development, Comrade Abayomi Arabambi, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour party, demanded the omission was an “administrative error”.
“Yes, I’m very much aware that Labour Party is omitted on the list, but I believe it is an administrative error on the part of the Electoral commission. We are going to Abuja to correct this”, Arabambi said.
But, Niyi Ijalaye while responding to Abayomi Arabambi’s claim, said from the records available to the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state, the Labour party did not submit any aspirant’s name for both the governorship and deputy governorship position in the state.
“Let the Labour Party go and correct it in the FCT, Abuja because what I’m saying is that…my head office in Abuja was responsible for these records which have been forwarded to us so if there is any administrative error, it must be an error on Labour Party’s part maybe they need to go and resolve with them in Abuja,” Niyi Ijalaye said.
