LGBTQ And The Pride Flag -Everything You Need To Know About LGBTQ And The Pride Flag

The first widely used term, was homosexual it was a popular word used to classify every and all individual that encourages same-sex relationship, it arose a lot of negativity and was later replaced with homophile in the 1950s and 1960s, and afterward gay in the 1970s, it was later on that the homosexual community adopted “LGBTQ” as an incentive.

It stands for Lesbian, Gays, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer. The acronym was brought to use in the 1990s, the term stood in place of the formerly used initials which was LGB, which supplanted the word “Gay”. The acronym served as an umbrella term for sexuality and gender identity it refers to anyone who is non-heterosexual, it was seen as something milder to use instead of addressing people as Gay, Lesbian, or Transgender.

LESBIANS AND LESBIANISM

The term lesbian has progressively been used to characterize the set of women that entertain the idea of the same-sex relationship, but the case hasn’t always been like that, it was formerly implored to classify the sexual beliefs.

lesbianism is an erotic relationship existing between females.

The idea of lesbians to discern women with a conjunct sexual orientation developed in the 20th century. A rather elaborate chronicle documented from past experience has detailed the freedom of women to practice such under hostile checkup, lesbianism never had any Independence expressed in a bodily relationship free from criticism but the punishment that was vented on lesbians wasn’t as harsh as the one rendered on homosexual men in some societies.

Instead, the lesbian relationship has been deemed and considered harmless and innocent, except if a participant aspires to exact privileges naturally enjoyed by men. As a cause-effect little in history was put down about how female homosexuality was expressed.

When early sexologists in the latter part of the 19th century began to categorize and describe homosexual behavior, misguided by their lack of knowledge about homosexuality they summarized the term “Lesbian” as women who did not adhere to female gender roles. They called them mentally impaired individuals a form of oppression issued out on a  large scale. But the global scientific community with full support reversed that very appellation in the 20th century.

Similar to every other denomination that suffered segregation like been tagged as “inferior” or subordinate” in respect to race or gender, the women in homosexual relationships in Europe and the united states enjoyed their fair share of discrimination as the society responded to such moral derailments by either forcing them to hide their personal lives or giving them a lasting identity as an outcast.

Preceding after the 2nd world war the government actively persecuted Homosexuals. Women had to create networks for the benefit of socializing and educating each other. By doing so they were able to secure a greater economy and social freedom within themselves this allowed them to make decisions on how they could form families and relationships.

This produced another wave of feminism, and also the growth of scholarship in women’s history and sexuality in the early 20th century. Even without a pen another definition of lesbians was formed further broadening the whole scope and putting a pothole meant to be filled by the appropriate definition of who a lesbian is.

Lisa M. Diamond took the liberty to identify sexual desires as a core component for defining lesbians after being inspired by her research. Many women who engage in such a relationship don’t Fancy being called a lesbian. But on the other hand, a lot of women who identify themselves as lesbians are not necessarily referring to the sexual behaviors involved.

But another aspect of events concerning the origin of the word lesbians encourages us to jump back in time to the 6th century BCE, to an island in Greek known as Lesbos, home to Sappho. From a variety of studied ancient writings, and conclusions made after analysis of historical gatherings. a silver lining of events was formed.

Not Much was known about Sappho but the little that could be scrapped about her were her poetries which reflects her deep feelings for women she pivoted her works on the daily lifestyle of women, their relationships, and rituals. While focusing on their beauty she announced her love for girls. Before the 19th century, the word Lesbians referred to any aspect of Lesbos, with the inclusion of their beverages.

TRANSGENDER

Breaching of boundaries has always dwelt consistently among humans, we always find people who contravene laws whether instituted by a human governing body or theological society, wherever you are situated it’s very possible to find an individual who has broken gender boundaries. I am not referring to the “Queering” gender, such as the lesbian heretics who wore dungarees in the 1970s.

Rather something much bigger, big enough to defy nature and break the possibility of something impossible this involves the crossing of genders, as hard as it is to believe they are individuals whose past images are different from their present, once more I’m not talking about the cause-effect or influence of puberty on the human body but more of body alterations.

The word “Transvestite” originated from the Dutch sexologist Magnus Hirschfeld in 1910, Magnus later developed the Berlin Institute where the very first ‘sex change’ operation took place. “Transsexual” was coined in the year 1949, while transgender in the year 1971, while trans didn’t exist till the year 1996.

Following the Oxford English Dictionary, the use of ‘androgyne’ was first recorded in 1552, but it has only been in the last 10 years that people have proclaimed it for themselves to describe a state of being-in-between, or having both genders.’ Polygender’ was employed in late 1990s California and it was a term used to describe a state of having multiple genders.

But as time went on series of appellation were invented and used and it changed from the Hijra of India to the Fa’afafine of Polynesia, to the ladyboys and the tomboys of Thailand, to the Takatapui of New Zealand, there is a myriad of words used by trans people to describe themselves.

BISEXUAL

In ancient Greece, bisexuality was encouraged between free men, with older men engaging in an erotic sexual relationship with younger men because they believed it was a way to transfer wisdom and experience, but that didn’t stop them from later marrying women.

Bisexuality is a form of relationship in which participants kindle the fire of love with both genders.

Many greek fables are embedded with bisexual heroes, the likes of Achilles who held a relationship with multiple women, and his sparing partner/friend Patrocius. He wasn’t the only bisexual around Alexander the great, as well as Emperor Hadrian both, had wives and male lovers.

In ancient Japan, bisexuality was common between the samurai warriors, they held an intimate relationship with the younger and unexperienced men this kind of relationship was called “shudo”

Bisexuality was predominantly viewed as more acceptable than homosexuality, it was very much preferable to the point a third gender was produced called the “Wakashu” in other words “an attractive young man”. It was prohibited for an adult man to hold a relationship with his fellow adult man, but no law forbade them from having a lasting affair with a woman or a wakashu.

Some evidence has surmised suggesting that Native Americans were in support of bisexuality as they made the existence of the “Two-spirit” people. The two people spirit were reportedly a member of a tribe who played both roles or men and women and was seen as sacred. Heterosexual and homosexual relationships were promoted amongst this tribe.

The word “bisexual” was never heard of till 1892, it was rightly coined by Charles Chaddock, who was translating kraft Ebing’s Psychopathiasexualls. During this time, however, homosexual acts were strictly prohibited, and England was busy enforcing anti-sodomy laws that didn’t change till 1967.

Bisexuality has often been referred to as a form of mental derailment and disorder sharing a similitude with homosexuality. Castration, as well as medications and electric shock therapy, were subsequently used as treatments.

QUEER

they are like transgender people, gender deviant.
