The Pan African University is a prestigious university network created by the African Union leaders. Its main goal is to offer high-quality postgraduate education that contributes to developing a prosperous, united, and peaceful Africa.
The university invites talented and motivated individuals from African countries and the African Diaspora to apply for Master or PhD degree programs at four PAU institutes. The university particularly encourages applicants with the potential, drive, and aspiration to become transformative leaders in academia, industry, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
About PAU
The idea for the Pan African University was conceived in 2008 as part of the Plan of Action for the Second Decade of Education for Africa. Its purpose was to support the revitalization of higher education in Africa and contribute to the African Union’s vision.
In 2009, a panel of distinguished African professors was established to assist in developing the necessary operationalization instruments. These instruments were endorsed by the Conference of Ministers of Education of the African Union in November 2009.
The Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union decided to establish the Pan African University in 2010. On December 14th, 2011, the African Union Commission launched PAU as a flagship initiative.
The Assembly adopted the Pan African University Statute in January 2013, and a revised version of the PAU Statute was adopted in January 2016.
