The West African Examination Council (WAEC) today, Monday 2nd November 2023, released the results of candidates that sat for the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (May/June) in Nigeria.
WAEC announced this, stating that candidates not indebted to the council should check their WAEC results through a checker PIN on their smart identity cards used for the examination.
According to him, “Candidates who sat the examination and who have fulfilled their financial obligations to the council can access their performance on the council’s results website: www.waecdirect.org and may return an error if you use only https://waecdirect.org without WWW.
“The Result Checker PIN and Serial Number required by candidates to check their results online are contained on the candidate’s Smart Identity Card used during the examination.
Steps to using WAEC Result Checker 2022/2023
According to WAECDirect.org, the steps for checking WAEC Result 2023 May/June are below.
- Enter your 10-digit WAEC Examination Number (This is your 7-Digit centre number followed by your 3-digit candidate number, e.g. 4123456789)
- Enter the 4 digits of your Examination Year, e.g. 2002
- Select the Type of Examination
- Enter the e-PIN Voucher Number
- Enter the Personal Identification Number (PIN) on your e-PIN
- Click Submit and wait for the results window to come up

Statistics on the 2023 May/June WAEC Exam Result
The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released the 2023 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination results. Statistics provided show that about One million, three hundred and thirty-eight thousand, three hundred and fifty-eight (1,338,358), representing 86.99 per cent of 1,538,445 candidates who sat for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) 2023, obtained credit and above in a minimum of any five subjects with or without the compulsory English Language and Mathematics.

Patrick Areghan, the Head of the Nigerian Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), made this known during a press briefing held Monday to announce the release of the 2023 WASSCE results.
The statistics, as shown above, represent a marginal 1.06 per cent improvement in candidates’ performance compared to the 2019 WASSCE result, where those who obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, including Mathematics and English language, were 64.18 per cent.
Areghan added that, of the 65.24 per cent, 497,139, representing 49.53 per cent, were male, while 506,529, representing 50.47 per cent, were female candidates.
“The results of 215,149 candidates, representing 13.98% of the total number of candidates that sat for the examination, are being withheld in connection with various cases of examination malpractice.
“The cases are being investigated, and reports of the investigation will be presented to the appropriate committee of the council for determination in due course. The committee decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates through their schools.
“The released results are being uploaded on the results website. Candidates who sat for the examination and have fulfilled their financial obligations to the council can access their performance on the Council’s results website, www.waecdirect.org.
The WAEC result checker pin and serial number required by candidates to check their 2022/2023 results online are on the candidates’ Smart Identity Card used during the examination.
While certificates of candidates whose results have been fully processed and released will be ready within the next 90 days, counting from today,” Adeghan said.
