Liquid destroys electronic devices with rapid grace and unimaginable speed, but the chances of saving your documents, files, beloved programs rest on how fast you can beat this spontaneous development.

“TURN IT OFF RIGHT AWAY”, take safety precautions pertaining to your health,

Sanity is the first thing that goes out the window when in a state of panic. Over the year they’re people who lost their lives to shock hazard, this isn’t up for debate, life is to precious ensure you kill the power not only in the laptop but at least within a meter radius from your point, water and electricity don’t mix, if they do the results aren’t always pretty.

“Do not panic” said Joe silver man, Owner of New York Computer Help. Seconding that is to kill the power of the laptop, why is this necessary?

Reality check shows that you don’t necessarily need a collection of lead to work in a cohesive order before making an explosion, combustion can be easily achieved by leaving a laptop powered on after exposure to liquid.

So if you don’t really fancy the idea of going down with your laptop, it’s best to switch I off.

Hold the power button for five to seven seconds until it’s totally off. Don’t waste time in switching the computer off, the longer you wait the more damaged the components become. The quicker you turn off the machine the more chances you have in saving it.

If the computer can be disassembled (If permitted by the user guide), make sure to remove the battery, some laptops eject the battery after pulling the latch, others need to be unscrewed, if you’re comfortable doing so, go ahead otherwise leave it shut.

Remove everything connected to the laptop, from the USB plug to dongles to flash drives, etc. Make sure nothing is drawing power from the laptop.

Do not take this lightly, the keyboard is one of the most vital components of a laptop, it is built on top of several other important computer peripherals, water slipping through it can cause damages so extreme that the speaker, as well as the motherboard, would be affected.

Most hardware can survive a full barrel of water dunked into it, provided the power is off. By tuning down the system and removing the battery, the circuit with the potential to damage the computer after being exposed to water has been rendered out of commission.

So for you’re step 1: Remove all easily detachable components. Unplug your mouse and every other cable, remove every flash and DVDs connected, leave your laptop bare.

Step 2: Dry the outside of your laptop. Open it to the barest point, position it upside down so as to let all accumulated liquid drain out. Use an absorbent towel fabric to wipe wet surfaces until they’re dry. Of all your endeavors do not attempt to force dry your laptop with a fan, hairdryer, or heat gun.

Step 3: examine each component you removed in step 1. Check for any sign of wetness or corrosion. Any wet parts should be dried, but if the liquid is anything other than water, wipe it off using a clean toothbrush dipped fully in isopropyl alcohol.

Step 4: once everything has been properly examined and free from signs of corrosion, leave it to dry for a minimum of two-three days in a warm, dry area. Once more do not use a hairdryer to hasten the process, as it can result in static problems. Once you’re done with the drying process and of course. Reverse the removal effect and put the laptop back to its original state. Switch it on and see how it works.
