The AERC, founded in 1988, is a non-profit organization that aims to advance economic policy research and training in Africa. Its mission is based on the belief that the development of sub-Saharan Africa depends on having well-trained, locally-based professional economists.

The AERC seeks to build capacity in economic policy by offering support in policy research and graduate training to French and English-speaking African countries.

About African Economic Research Consortium (AERC)

In the late 1980s, a group of Africanists and African scholars noticed a gap between economic policy-making and research in sub-Saharan Africa. They realized that research findings from other economies were not always applicable to the African context, and even when available, they were often not utilized. This led to the establishment of AERC.
