Edo State 2024 Governorship Election Timetable

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the timetable for the Edo State 2024 governorship Election since the tenure of the Governor of Edo State will end on November 11, 2024.

As stated in section 178(2) of the 1999 (as amended) constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, election into the said office shall be held not earlier than 150 days and later than 30 days before the expiration of the tenure of the last holder of the office.

Similarly, Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 mandates that the commission publish the notice of the election date not later than 360 days before the election dates.

On that note, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) exercising the powers conferred on it by the Constitution and Electoral Act has released the timetable for the 2024 Edo state governorship election and they are as follows:

Below is the timetable for the Edo State Governorship election

• Date for the commencement of political party’s primaries -> February 1, 2024
• Deadline -> February 24, 2024
• Date and time for the submission of the EC9 (personal particulars of candidates) and EC9b (Names/list of nominated candidates) via Nomination Portal only -> March 4, 2024 (9:00 am)

These are the timetables for the Edo State 2024 Governorship Election starting from the commencement of the party primaries on February 1, 2024, till the date for the Edo State 2024 Governorship Election which will be held on September 21, 2024.

By ample notice as required by both the Constitution and Electoral Act, the commission appeals to both political parties and candidates to note the activities in the timetable for strict compliance.
